Building Official/Building Inspector/Mechanical Inspector/Zoning Code Official
Perform plan reviews and field inspection services in accordance with State of Michigan Building and Mechanical Codes. Coordinate contractual electrical and plumbing inspectors. Enforce local ordinances.
Work with contractors/property owners/architects to determine compliance with State and local codes.
Review plans/information submitted for permit(s). Coordinate Zoning Board of Appeals matters. Report to Economic & Community Development Director and City Manager as needed.
Minimum four (4) years experience in building construction - superintendent, foreman, etc to be considered for building official/inspector/plan reviewer. Four (4) years experience in HVAC preferred for mechanical inspector/plan review. Must have State of Michigan license(s) for disciplines outlined above and qualify under Act 54 of the Public Acts of 1986 of the State of Michigan.
High school diploma required. Associates degree or higher preferred.

Work is performed both in an office and in the field. Must visit construction sites, walk on uneven terrain and work in all types of weather conditions. Must be able to access structures by crawling in confined spaces, climbing or stooping for prolonged periods as necessary to conduct inspections. Work occasionally requires being in high places and around machinery and equipment used in building construction. Work requires hearing to monitor and hear safety warnings on a building site, visual acuity to read and interpret engineered drawings and blueprints and to use a computer. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
The employee is constantly required to use math and calculation, problem solving, reading and proofreading, and reasoning and analysis.
Full-time 37.5 hrs/week

Pay Grade 5, Salary Range $53,313 to $63,006
