Building and Code Enforcement

The Building Department is responsible for administering the Michigan Construction Code. The department reviews and issues building, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing permits along with inspections. Along with administering all facets of the Michigan Construction Code, the department also issues zoning compliance permits. As part of this process, the department also issues zoning compliance permits. Depending on the nature of the site redevelopment, the City administers storm water regulations through the Oakland County Water Resources Commission, as well as Soil Erosion Permits.

The Building Department is responsible for enforcement of all city codes pertaining to zoning, signs, fences, property maintenance, home foreclosures, and nuisances.
