Officer of the Year

2018 Officer of the Year - Public Safety Officer Matthew Miracle

Matt-(1).pngThe Awards and Citations Board is proud to name Public Safety Officer Matthew Miracle the 2018 Officer of the Year.  Officer Miracle is a four (4) year veteran of the Department.  Prior to joining the Farmington Public Safety Department, he served as a police officer with the City of Romulus and as a public safety officer with the City of Oak Park.  PSO Miracle consistently displays the highest levels of professionalism and sets the standard for excellence in service to the community.  He is the recipient of two (2) Life Saving Awards, (2) Unit Citations and seven (7) Letters of Appreciation.

In 2016, the Public Safety Department began its journey toward pursuing accreditation status through the Michigan Association of Chiefs of Police Law Enforcement Accreditation Coalition.  In order to achieve this prestigious status, the department was required to conduct a thorough review of all policies and procedures to ensure that we meet the highest standards and professional objectives.  Accreditation status represents a significant professional achievement and acknowledges the implementation of policies and procedures that are conceptually sound and operationally effective.
Critical to the process of accreditation is the appointment of the Accreditation Manager.  The person designated to fill this role must be organized and efficient, capable of dealing effectively with all levels of agency management, be willing to work the long hours that accreditation activities demand and be innovative and open-minded to implementing change.  PSO Miracle enthusiastically volunteered to assume the Accreditation Manager role and performed admirably.  He painstakingly developed spreadsheets and checklists to ensure that the accreditation process was working efficiently and remained on schedule.  He was instrumental in implementing an electronic document management system to further improve efficiency.  He coordinated all facets of the accreditation process including conducting research and analysis of all department polices and made recommendations to command staff about ways to improve operational and administrative orders.  PSO Miracle did all of this while assigned to the patrol division where he continued to be proactive in preventing crimes and enforcing traffic laws.  Even with the considerable time he devoted to Accreditation management, he continued to maintain high levels of productivity in the field and he achieved above average performance evaluations.
In June of 2018, the Farmington Public Safety Department became one of only 10 agencies in the State of Michigan to be awarded accreditation status.  Although the process of accreditation required department-wide support, this accomplishment could not have been achieved without the hard work, dedication and professionalism of PSO Miracle.  It is for this reason that PSO Miracle is worthy of recognition as the 2018 Officer of the Year.
On behalf of the Awards and Citations Committee, I would like to commend Officer Miracle on receiving this distinguished award.  Thank you for your continued loyalty and commitment to this wonderful profession and to the Public Safety Department.  Because of your hard work and passion for public safety, you have helped keep Farmington a wonderful place to live, work and visit.
