Demolition of former Groves-Walker American Legion Post 346 begins; new Legion Square Apartment Community to take its place

Demolition has commenced at the former Groves-Walker American Legion Post 346 building, located at 31775 Grand River Avenue, marking the start of an exciting new development project in Farmington. The site will be transformed into the Legion Square apartment community, a 30-unit residential development featuring four modern buildings.

Cervi Construction, a Livonia-based developer, is leading the project. The new apartments will offer 1,500 square feet of living space, with rent estimated at $2,000 per month. The development aims to provide high-quality housing while paying tribute to the history and significance of the property. The anticipated start date of construction is spring 2025.

“This project reflects our commitment to growth and revitalization, while we also honor the history of the American Legion building that stood there,” said Farmington Assistant City Manager Chris Weber.

The veterans' organization recently relocated to a new facility just one mile south of downtown Farmington, in Farmington Hills - 21023 Farmington Road. Here, the Groves-Walker American Legion Post can continue to serve the community and its veterans.

To honor the legacy of the former Post, a commemorative plaque will be installed at the Legion Square site. This plaque will recognize the property's history, and the sacrifices made by local veterans, ensuring that the community's respect for their service endures as the site undergoes this transformation.
