Farmington prepares Riley Park Ice Rink for winter fun

The Farmington Department of Public Works (DPW) is excited to announce plans to start the set up of Riley Park Ice Rink in early December, just in time for the kids’ winter vacation—weather permitting. Before the rink installation begins, DPW crews are focused on completing the citywide leaf collection program, ensuring neighborhoods are prepared for winter. Once this essential task is finished, efforts will shift to preparing the beloved community ice rink, a centerpiece of Farmington’s winter recreation.

Set up is slated for the first week of December. This year, set up may coincide with Holly Days, the annual community holiday celebration on Dec. 7. Parts of the park area will be restricted during ice rink set up, but this will not impact Holly Days or the Greens, Gifts and Giving Market.

“We’re thrilled to continue this annual tradition and are grateful for the community’s patience as we wrap up our seasonal responsibilities,” said DPW Superintendent Chuck Eudy. “We’re looking forward to creating another winter of memorable skating moments.”

Riley Park Ice Rink is celebrating 10 years. It’s located in the heart of Downtown Farmington, transforming Riley Park into a festive winter destination each year. The 4,800-square-foot refrigerated rink, measuring 80 by 40 feet, typically opens in mid-December, weather permitting, and operates through the winter season. Admission is free, but donations are encouraged to help cover maintenance costs. While skate rentals aren't available, the rink does offer some donated skates for use.

The rink is open daily with hours from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Special events, such as themed holiday skates, add to the excitement throughout the season.
