Matthew Miquel Jones, the individual responsible for the 2022 shooting incident on Slocum Street in Farmington, has been sentenced to 60-80 years in prison for assault with intent to murder. The verdict was delivered on March 14, 2024 after a jury trial conducted in the Oakland County Sixth District Court, with Judge Yasmine Pole presiding over the proceedings.
 
Jones, a 42-year-old resident of Farmington Hills, was convicted of assault with intent to murder, felony firearm, and felon in possession of firearm. His earliest release date is Nov.3, 2084.
 
When shooting occurred on Nov. 1, 2022, Farmington Public Safety Officers were dispatched to 33230 Slocum Street for a report of malicious destruction of property.  The reporting person believed that a tire on his pick-up truck had been intentionally slashed.  After hanging up with dispatch, he called back four minutes later and informed dispatch that he had been shot.   Responding officers arrived within two minutes and found the victim lying next to his truck.
 
The swift and diligent efforts of the Farmington Public Safety Department led to the arrest of Jones by Nov. 4, 2022. Law enforcement agencies that assisted with the thorough investigation include the Farmington Hills Police Department, Detroit Fugitive Apprehension Team, Oakland County Sheriff’s Department, Michigan State Police, the U.S. Marshals Service and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
