Survey: Help Make Farmington More Walkable
The Farmington Pathways Committee is working to make Grand River more walkable by identifying locations for new crosswalks along Grand River.
Installing crosswalks on state highways, such as Grand River Avenue, involves a variety of engineering factors including speed limit, vehicle traffic, pedestrian traffic, crossing types, safety measures, community needs, and more. This fall, our volunteers walked Grand River from Halsted to Nine Mile and inventoried more than a dozen locations that seemed like good spots for crosswalks. Next, we'll start applying for grants to cover the cost of building new crosswalks and making them safe on such a busy road: think rapid flashing beacons, pedestrian islands, and bump-outs.
But first, we need your input! The Pathways Committee is looking for feedback on whether the proposed crosswalks would improve safety and accessibility for you and/or the community — and, most importantly, whether you would use them.
