The City of Farmington is proud to welcome municipal leaders from across the state as host of the 2026 Michigan Association of Mayors Summer Workshop, Aug. 5-7.

The annual workshop brings together mayors, village presidents and local officials from throughout Michigan for professional development, networking and discussions on issues impacting communities statewide. This year's agenda includes sessions on current legislative issues, 2030 Census preparation, the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), Sister City relationships and other topics important to local government.

Hosting this year's workshop is especially meaningful for Farmington, which was recently honored with the 2026 Great American Main Street Award, recognizing the city's outstanding downtown revitalization efforts and collaborative approach to community development.

Mayor Joe LaRussa spearheaded Farmington's effort to host the event, championing the city as an ideal location for municipal leaders to gather, learn and experience firsthand the work that has earned national recognition.

"We're honored to welcome mayors and local leaders from across Michigan to Farmington," said Mayor LaRussa. "This workshop is an opportunity to share ideas, strengthen relationships and showcase the incredible work our community has accomplished through collaboration, thoughtful planning and the dedication of countless volunteers, businesses and community partners."

In addition to educational sessions, attendees will experience several of Farmington's unique destinations and revitalization projects. The workshop includes a welcome reception at KickstART Gallery, an evening in Downtown Farmington, and dinner at John Cowley & Sons Irish Pub.

Attendees will also participate in a guided presentation and walking tour of downtown led by Mayor LaRussa and Downtown Development Authority Executive Director Jess Westendorf. The tour will highlight the partnerships, public investments, volunteer engagement and long-term planning that transformed Downtown Farmington into a thriving destination.
