Please remember that under Michigan law, e-bikes are not permitted to ride on sidewalks. Starting August 1, the Farmington Public Safety Department will begin enforcing the law prohibiting individuals from riding e-bikes on the sidewalk.

For the safety of pedestrians and riders alike, all e-bike operators must use the roadway and follow the same traffic laws as other vehicles, including speed limits and stop signs.

To ride in the street, your e-bike must meet Michigan’s official Class 1, 2, or 3 electric bicycle definitions. If it doesn't it isn't street-legal without full motor vehicle registration.

So, whether you’re walking, biking, or driving, let’s all do our part to keep our community safe and respectful for everyone.
