Freedom Gateway Center celebrates new Public Safety drone with Community Blessing Ceremony
Community members, city officials, and Farmington Public Safety personnel gathered in May as Freedom Gateway Center hosted a special Blessing of the Drone ceremony, celebrating a new Public Safety drone made possible through a $10,000 donation from the organization.
The drone was purchased following Freedom Gateway Center's contribution to Farmington Public Safety, which was presented to the City Council in September 2025 by Co-Pastor Deborah O'Dell. The donation stemmed from the center's innovative "reverse offering" program, in which members were given funds to grow through creative projects and community-minded entrepreneurship. Participants sold items such as baked goods, homemade bath products, and dog treats, while others offered services including car washes.
The initiative ultimately raised $10,000, which Freedom Gateway Center designated for the purchase of a drone to support public safety operations in Farmington.
Pastors Randy and Deborah O'Dell co-lead Freedom Gateway Center and Freedom Church and also serve as chaplains for Farmington Public Safety.
According to Pastor Deborah O’Dell, “The drone initiative represents more than a technology investment—it represents a community investment. Freedom Church was honored to partner with Farmington Public Safety because we share a common desire: to help safeguard the people, families, businesses, and future of Farmington. We recognize the vital role public safety personnel play in watching over the gates of our city, and we are grateful for the opportunity to stand beside them as partners in that mission.”
During the May ceremony, attendees gathered to recognize the new technology and its role in serving and protecting the community. The event highlighted the strong partnership between Freedom Gateway Center and Farmington Public Safety and acknowledged the many volunteers and participants whose efforts helped make the donation possible.
"We are grateful for Freedom Gateway Center's generosity and ongoing support of Farmington Public Safety," said Public Safety Director Bob Houhanisin. "This drone provides valuable tools that will enhance our ability to respond to emergencies, assist with search and rescue efforts, and continue providing a high level of service to our residents."
The drone will be used to support a variety of public safety operations, including emergency response, situational awareness, search efforts, and incident management.
"This project demonstrates what can happen when community members come together with a shared goal of supporting public safety," Houhanisin added. "The donation and the celebration that followed reflect the strong partnerships that help make Farmington a great place to live and work."
