Farmington Public Safety Deputy Director Todd Anderson Retires After 25 Years of Service

The City of Farmington and the Farmington Public Safety Department celebrated the retirement of Deputy Director Todd Anderson on June 12, recognizing more than 25 years of dedicated service to the community.

Anderson began his public safety career as a reserve officer with Farmington in 1994. He graduated from both the Oakland Community College Fire Academy and the Macomb County Police Academy before joining the department as a full-time Public Safety Officer in 2001. Throughout his career, he served in numerous roles, including detective, field training officer, firearms instructor, taser instructor, accident reconstructionist, evidence technician, sergeant, commander and, most recently, Deputy Director.

A respected leader and mentor, Anderson earned a reputation for his professionalism, compassion and commitment to service. His career was marked by countless acts of kindness, lifesaving interventions and a willingness to help both residents and fellow officers. Community members frequently expressed their gratitude through letters praising his empathy, dedication and ability to provide comfort during difficult moments.

“Todd has been an outstanding public servant, mentor and leader,” said Farmington Public Safety Director Bob Houhanisin. “His impact on this department and community extends far beyond his accomplishments and awards. He has helped shape the culture of our organization and has made Farmington a better place through his service.”

During his career, Anderson received numerous honors, including 11 Letters of Appreciation, 15 Unit Citations, eight Life Saving Awards, a Distinguished Service Medal, a Professional Service Award, and was named Officer of the Year three times.

Beyond his professional achievements, Anderson was known throughout the department for his generosity, positive attitude and willingness to help others. Colleagues often turned to him not only for his expertise but also for his friendship and support, as well as his mechanical abilities!
